Position Summary

This recruitment will be used to fill multiple part-time and full-time student positions for the KidSpirit Summer Day Camp Program in the College of Public Health and Human Sciences at Oregon State University (OSU).

Students may work a maximum of 20 hours per week Spring term and 20-40 hours per week in the summer based on student’s summer enrollment.

KidSpirit’s goal is to provide a quality and safe environment for all campers, parents, and staff. Employees should always be prepared and willing to respond to the unexpected.

Position Duties

100% Specific duties and percentages vary depending on the student assignment but duties may include:

  • Attending orientations, meetings, and in-service trainings.
  • Completing and submitting appropriate documents as needed (incident/accident reports, monthly timesheets, lesson plans, etc.).
  • Maintain equipment and supplies inventory.
  • Administer first aid and activate emergency action steps if medical attention is required.

For head instructor positions:

  • Leading specialized activities and promoting skill development.
  • Preparing and implementing lesson plans, providing feedback
  • Maintaining safe learning environment.
  • Assisting other instructors and camp counselors.

For camp counselors:

  • Responsible for overseeing the safety and care of all children assigned to their groups during camp activities and transitions.
  • Aiding instructors and camp counselors during daily camp activities.

For leadership positions:

  • Train and mentor summer camp staff on camp policies and procedures.
  • Review and provide feedback on lesson plans, staff evaluations, and incident /accident reports.
  • Ensure daily behind the scene requirements are completed in a timely manner (set up for check in, check out, lunch).
  • Revise SOP as needed.
Minimum Qualifications

Additional Required Qualifications
  • Have experience working with children.
  • Current, valid First Aid certification.
  • Current, valid CPR Adult/Child certification.
  • This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a Criminal History Check and be determined to be position qualified as per OSU Standard 576-055-0000 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in Youth Programs may have additional Criminal History Checks every 24 months.

Working Conditions / Work Schedule
  • Position works directly with minors.
  • Duties are performed in an environment suitable for the activity/sport they are instructing such as a gym, kitchen, field, etc.
  • Work may be performed at various locations, on or off the main campus, and in varying weather conditions and temperatures.
