Position Summary

The College of Pharmacy invites applications for a full-time (1.00 FTE), 12-month, Instructor position. Reappointment is at the discretion of the Dean.

This position will teach in the Doctor of Pharmacy program in the College of Pharmacy at Oregon State University, and provide service to the University and the profession. Opportunities for collaborative scholarship are available. This position will enhance innovative education for tomorrow’s pharmacists.

OSU is located in Corvallis, a community of 53,000 people situated in the Willamette Valley between Portland and Eugene. Ocean beaches, lakes, rivers, forests, high desert, the rugged Cascade and Coast Ranges, and the urban amenities of the Portland metropolitan area are all within a 100-mile drive of Corvallis. Approximately 18,000 undergraduate and 3,800 graduate students are enrolled at OSU, including 3,500 U.S. students of color and nearly 1,100 international students. Students come from all 50 states and nearly 100 countries worldwide.

Position Duties

85% TEACHING:
The faculty member’s primary responsibility will be course instruction and course management of Pharm.D. students focusing on small group and classroom education in pharmacy practice and interprofessional education course sequences. These courses are team taught and include instruction on physical examination techniques. The instructor will assist with clinical simulation and the use of standardized patients for education and assessment. The faculty member will have the opportunity to serve as a mentor in professional clerkships. Maintenance of relevant clinical pharmacy skills is expected.

15% SERVICE:
Faculty are expected to serve on college or university committees and to contribute to the mission of Oregon State University. Additionally, service to the profession through state and national organizations is imperative.

0-5% SCHOLARSHIP:
Instructors are not required to produce scholarship, but collaborative opportunities are available, particularly in the scholarship of teaching.

Minimum/Required Qualifications

The applicant must have the potential for teaching excellence. Due to the collaborative teaching nature of the position, proficiency in working in teams is imperative. Applicants should possess a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an American Council on Pharmaceutical Education (ACPE) accredited school/college of pharmacy or similar work experience. Applicants must have completed a PGY1 residency or 3 or more years of relevant clinical or professional work experience. The applicant must be eligible for pharmacy licensure in Oregon. The candidate must be proficient in oral and written English.

Preferred (Special) Qualifications

A preference is given to candidates with: Evidence of teaching experience; training in physical examination skills; training in clinical simulation; knowledge of interprofessional collaborative practice and education; specialty residency completion; and previous faculty experience.
