Position Summary

The School of Biological and Population Health Sciences invites applications for a full-time (1.00 FTE), 9-month, tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor position (depending on qualifications).

Responsibilities include conducting independent and collaborative research, advancing the University’s research agenda in the area of Biostatistics, assisting in the development of a new Biostatistics track for the MPH Program, teaching graduate and undergraduate courses, advising and mentoring graduate students, providing service to the practice community and the field of public health, and assisting the department and the college in the strategic development of a College of Public Health.

Position Duties

45% Teaching and Advising:

  • Teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in the fields of Biostatistics as assigned by the Department Chair. In addition, responsibilities include advising graduate students as appropriate in their academic research and professional development; sitting on graduate committees; and meeting with prospective students.

45% Scholarship:

  • Conducting and directing research, seeking extramural funding, sustaining a funded research program, publishing in top-tiered peer-reviewed journals relevant to Public Health, presenting at professional meetings and mentoring the research of graduate students.

10% Service:

  • Providing service to the Department, College and University in the form of assisting with the development of a College of Public Health; participation in faculty meetings and appropriate Department, College and University events; providing service to the community and profession through involvement in professional organizations, serving as a reviewer for manuscripts, and participating on professional and scientific advisory boards to local, state and federal organizations.
Minimum/Required Qualifications
  • A doctoral degree in Biostatistics, Statistics, or closely related field.
  • Demonstrated expertise in public health as reflected by training, research, teaching and/or service aligned with the vision and mission of the College
  • A demonstrable commitment to high teaching standards.
  • A desire to work collaboratively with colleagues in the School, the College, and the University.
  • The successful candidate will demonstrate evidence of (Associate Professor) or the potential to (Assistant Professor): develop strong independent and collaborative programs of research; secure external funding; deliver high-quality teaching, advising, and mentoring at the undergraduate and graduate levels; and provide service to the School, College, University, and profession.
Preferred (Special) Qualifications
  • The ability to work collaboratively with colleagues in the Department, College, and the University.
  • Relevant post-doctoral experience, successful mentoring of junior faculty (Associate Professor).
  • Evidence of effective communication.
  • A demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity.
  • For both ranks, candidates with any research focus will be considered. We are, however, particularly interested in candidates with expertise in statistical methods applied to the study of the social determinants of health as well as chronic and infectious diseases, aging, environmental health and those with a focus on under-served and international populations.
