Position Summary

The School of Civil and Construction Engineering (CCE) invites applications for a Graduate Coordinator. This is a full-time (1.0 FTE), 12-month, fixed term professional faculty position. Reappointment is at the discretion of the School Head.

The Graduate Coordinator is responsible for advising MEng graduate students in the School of CCE regarding the various course requirements. This position will track and provide guidance to graduate students to ensure requirements of the Graduate School are being completed timely and correctly. In addition, the position will participate in special projects. The Graduate Coordinator is also responsible for sustaining an environment of academic and professional excellence for students. An additional component of this position will be course scheduling for graduate and undergraduate courses.

The School of Civil and Construction Engineering is home to the Kiewit Center for Infrastructure and Transportation and the O.H. Hinsdale Wave Research Center . The School offers B.S., M.S., M. Eng., and Ph.D. degrees in Civil Engineering, as well as a B.S. degree in Construction Engineering Management. The School has approximately 1000 undergraduate majors and 185 graduate majors. The faculty includes 37 members, with areas of specialization that include construction engineering management, engineering education, geomatics engineering, geotechnical engineering, infrastructure materials engineering, ocean and coastal engineering, structural engineering, surveying, transportation engineering, and water resources engineering.

Position Duties

25% Direct Program Advising

Advises graduate students in the School of CCE regarding program requirements. This position will track and provide guidance to graduate students to ensure requirements of the Graduate School are being completed timely and correctly. Ensures CCE’s graduate program is in compliance with rules, laws, policies and procedures.

25% Program Coordinator

Assists graduate students with registration and the process to degree completions. Act as CCE’s liaison between graduate students and OSU’s Graduate School. Provides statistical reports and analysis for management review and for Graduate School Review process. Point of contact for graduate program information for prospective Civil and Construction Engineering Management graduate students (inquiries received by email, telephone, and in person).

40% – Scheduling & Academic Success
Oversees the scheduling of courses for the School of CCE working closely with the school head and faculty. Uses statistical analysis and manipulates data to generate reports as requested. Inputs overrides for students and processes blanket course approvals, assist in processing forms for grades changes and monitors web grading process. Ensures FERPA training is completed for graduate teaching assistants and students workers and any other training required.

7% General Office Operations
Track and submit School of CCE graduate web page updates, complete surveys pertaining to graduate students, and other duties as assigned by supervisor.

3% Supervision
Supervise 1 -2 undergraduate/graduate students.

Minimum/Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in science, engineering, psychology communication, counseling, business education or related field from an accredited degree program.

Two years of experience in program management and/or operations.

Demonstrated experience in successfully providing customer service to a broad range of people.

Outstanding interpersonal communication skills.

Competency in computer skills including the Microsoft Office Suite.

Demonstrated experience with data bases.
