Position Summary

This recruitment will be used to fill one full-time Plumber position in the Memorial Union at Oregon State University

The Memorial Union provides installation, repair, maintenance and operations services to ten buildings in Student Affairs and associated outdoor spaces as well. The MU Plumber is responsible for plumbing services to these buildings to include supply, waste, drain and vent lines, kitchen, restroom and other equipment sets installed at the point of service and supports the coordination of construction related activities.

The purpose of the MU Plumber position is to provide quality, courteous and timely coordination of plumbing maintenance and prevention services in collaboration with other skilled trades workers services to all internal and external customers and users; to coordinate skilled and unskilled labor in plumbing projects or other construction-related activities designed to support the safe and efficient operation, maintenance, repair and modernization of equipment and systems in all MU facilities; to provide continuous, reliable and efficient service; to provide and assure quality work; to estimate time, material and resource needs and schedule them within the MU environment appropriately, to organize, analyze and track plumbing maintenance data related to cost, schedule, labor availability, methods, materials and customer satisfaction.

Position Duties

80% Installation, Repair and Maintenance of Plumbing Systems
-Tasks include installation and replacement of pipes, valves, drains, basins, tubs, faucets, lavatories, sinks, water heaters, dishwashers and other plumbing fixtures and equipment; repairing breaks in pipes, cleaning and opening drains and other lines, repairing water pumps and heaters; occasionally installing and repairing gas and steam systems.

20% Miscellaneous Skilled Trades Activities
-Support Building Services in the operational response to restaurant equipment with a mission goal of sustained operations of all MU Retail Food Service operations, regardless of location.
-Improve our Preventive Maintenance (PM) focus on plumbing equipment, managing it to a long life expectancy and high level of sustainable operation.
-Manage and oversee plumbing systems and maintenance and repair operations in a manner which allows current Refrigeration Mechanic to focus on the buildings, their climate systems and oversight of the digital building controls.
-Back up other staff when additional support is needed, providing specialized coordination and expertise for contracted food service specialist support, and providing backup for the mechanical staff as needed.
-Provide plumbing advising and assistance to food service managers and student staff in equipment safety and training, industry best practices and the efficient operation of their equipment in each specialized restaurant configuration within Memorial Union Retail Food Services (MURFS).
-This position will continue to evolve, as technological demands require.

Minimum Qualifications

A valid Oregon Plumber’s license; AND One of the following: One year of experience as a journey-level plumber; or Completion of an approved apprenticeship program.

-Work experience in occupied buildings.

-Knowledge of relevant State and local building codes.

- Ability to understand and comply with manufacturer’s specifications and instructions for specific equipment

-Ability to exercise good judgement and ensure safe use and operation of required equipment.

Working Conditions / Work Schedule

Works with computers in a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) to receive and complete work orders, work may occur in a wet environment, bending and stooping for extended periods, and in hot, noisy and loud confined spaces, may use ladders, scaffolds, and other equipment for above ground locations such as roof tops.

Works around and with equipment that starts automatically.

Occasionally lifts up to 25 pounds and over 50. Occasional work with customers.

Valid Oregon driver’s license and good driving record required as position requires driving in performance of duties.
