Position Summary

Successful candidate performs routine to complex technical or specialized tasks in support of research, clinical or administrative/institutional work. Positions may include laboratory and field plot research, greenhouse operations, data collection and simple analysis.

Position Duties

100% Duties may include field research work associated with the Wheat Breeding Project at OSU’s Hyslop Farm. This includes: harvesting wheat rows, assist with combining research plots, hand harvest wheat heads, hand harvest wheat rows, thresh heads and rows for seed, sort and organize samples, collect and organize data, operate seed cleaners and other equipment, assist with irrigation, roguing, hybridization of wheat varieties, process and clean seed, prepare seed for planting, assist in planting plots, rows, pots, etc., sort and organize test samples, may operate and/or maintain cleaners, forklift, ATV and other equipment.

Additional Required Qualifications

Because the work is performed during the summer term break, student hourly employees must have been enrolled the previous term and have intentions of enrolling or be enrolled for the term following the summer term.

Preferred (Special) Qualifications

Must be 18 years and over.

Working Conditions / Work Schedule

Work is performed in a typical laboratory, seed-house and outdoors, on or off main campus, or at partner institutions. May have exposure to loud noises, dusty conditions and extreme weather conditions. May be exposed to moving machinery and mandatory overtime. May maneuver up to 60 lbs. May be required to stoop, bend, squat, stand, sit or kneel on hard level or uneven surfaces as necessary. Work is performed during the summer term break and vacation time is limited and at the discretion of the supervisor.
