Position Summary

This recruitment will be used to fill one part-time (a maximum of 20 hours per week) Student Technical Assistant position for the Department of Environmental and Molecular Toxicology (EMT) at Oregon State University (OSU). Performs routine to complex technical or specialized tasks in support of research. Some positions may include laboratory research, data collection, or simple analysis.

Position Duties

Student will perform routine laboratory duties and general lab maintenance.
30% -Lab maintenance related work
20% -Stocking pipet tips and EppiTubes
20% -Preparing and autoclaving various solutions
20% -Washing dishes according to protocol
10% -ChemStore shopping as needed

Minimum Qualifications
Additional Required Qualifications

This position is open to qualified/eligible work study students only.

Responsible and well organized with good time management and communication skills.
Ability to work independently.

This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a Criminal History Check and be determined to be position qualified as per OSU Standard 576-055-0000 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in Youth Programs may have additional Criminal History Checks every 2 years.

Preferred (Special) Qualifications

Prior lab experience in biological sciences is preferred, but not required.

A demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity.

Working Conditions / Work Schedule

Work is performed in a typical laboratory setting.

May have exposure to chemicals, wet and slippery floors, and machinery.
Flexible hours as needed to complete experiments/projects.

May require work with hazardous materials or equipment such as toxic chemicals, etc.

May maneuver up to 50 lbs. and may be required to stoop, bend and kneel on hard floors as necessary to provide care for animals.
