Position Summary

The School of Mechanical, Industrial, and Manufacturing Engineering at Oregon State University (OSU) invites applications for one full-time (1.00 FTE), tenure-track, 9-month assistant professor position in the school’s Advanced Manufacturing research area (higher ranks will be considered depending upon the qualifications of the successful candidate).

Applicants must hold a doctorate in a relevant field. The successful candidate is expected to initiate new funded research as well as expand, complement, and collaborate with existing research programs in the School and the College of Engineering and beyond. Candidates are sought in the area of advanced manufacturing (especially in metal forming). Alternatively, applicants are sought to conduct interdisciplinary research in computational mechanics as applied to advanced manufacturing. Preference will be given to candidates who will help augment the school’s advanced manufacturing research, while enthusiastically seeking interdisciplinary collaborations with other research areas of excellence within MIME, such as materials science, robotics, and design, and with college-wide collaborations in clean energy, clean water, and materials research. Other faculty collaboration opportunities include, but are not limited to, ATAMI (Advanced Technologies and Manufacturing Institute), NNMREC (Northwest National Marine Renewable Energy Center), OMI (Oregon Metals Initiative), and others, as well as newly established programs in Bioengineering, Robotics, Resilience, and Humanitarian Engineering.

Position responsibilities include teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and developing a sustainable, externally-funded and nationally recognized research program in advanced manufacturing. A PhD in Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing, or Systems Engineering, or related area is required. Postdoctoral and/or industry experience in a related field, is preferred. The position is open until filled. OSU is located in Corvallis, OR with approximately 29,000 students enrolled. The College of Engineering is the largest college with over 7,000 students. Within the School of MIME, there are over 2,000 undergraduate and graduate students across the manufacturing engineering, mechanical engineering, industrial engineering, energy systems engineering, robotics, and materials science programs. OSU is situated on a beautiful 400-acre campus. Corvallis is a community of 55,000 people in the Willamette Valley between Portland and Eugene. Corvallis is an idyllic college town. Position Duties

50% Teaching and related duties:
Teaching of undergraduate and/or graduate courses in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering and/or Materials Science.

40% Research and scholarly activities:
Research, scholarship, mentoring students, and management of multidisciplinary research programs.

10% Service:
Service to the School, College, University, and the Profession.

Minimum/Required Qualifications

Minimum/Required Qualifications for All Levels:
• Applicants must have earned a PhD in Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing, or Systems Engineering, or related area prior to position start date.
• Applicants must have demonstrated ability or significant potential for excellent teaching, leading and collaborating in innovative research, and attracting the necessary funding to sustain a vigorous research program are required.
• Applicants must have proven oral and written communication skills.
• Applicants must have a demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity and inclusion.

Minimum/Required Qualifications for Associate Level:
• Applicants must have a record of achievement in innovative research programs and publication activity.
• Applicants must have a demonstrated ability to establish effective university/industry/government laboratory relationships.
• Applicants must have developed and taught high quality undergraduate and graduate courses that focus on the multi-disciplinary nature of mechanical, industrial, and/or manufacturing engineering.

Minimum/Required Qualifications for Full Level:
• Applicants must have a record of national or international recognition and collaboration.
• Applicants must have a record of service to the profession through organizing or governing committees of appropriate professional societies.

Preferred (Special) Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications:
• Demonstrated ability (Associate/Full) or significant potential (Assistant) to teach courses in advanced manufacturing and/or computational mechanics as applied to advanced manufacturing at the graduate level.
• Demonstated ability to conduct experimental and analytical research in metal forming and/or computational mechanics as applied to advanced manufacturing.
• Postdoctoral and/or industry experience.
